I'm surprised that I turned out to be a sock knitter...<br />
<br />
My first project, I bit off more than I could chew (okay I could chew it but turns out I didn't want to) when I knit a knee high silk stocking for my first sock project. There is one finished sock...talk about second sock syndrome. I don't think I'll ever spend the 100+ hours to do the other. Oh well.<br />
<br />
After that, I decided that I should only ever knit socks 2 at a time so I went for 2 socks, toe up on a circular needle. Success! Those socks don't fit that well but I did finish them. Hooray!!<br />
<br />
Then, my husband (then boyfriend) asked for a pair. Coming off of the sock high from my previous finished paid I said YES!! That was 2007. For Christmas of 2014, I got a bee in my bonnet to finish them and give him quite a surprise. You see, it had been a joke for sooooo many years that he was convinced that I would never finish them. But I did! Holes and all...<br />
<br />
That project is actually what got me out of a years long knitting lull and for that I couldn't be more grateful. Life comes in seasons and I am glad that I am back in a making one. <br />
<br />
Anyway...here is how I now knit my socks!<br />
<br />
<b>Casting On</b><br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3-1-a5kigXY" width="640"></iframe>
<br />
This is ALWAYS tricky...but it is doable with patience and practice. It's finicky but gives a really lovely seamless toe. I use <a href="https://youtu.be/9-xwlUcIHMU">this video</a> to help when I need a refresher. Apologies for the blurriness...it's the best I can do with my lens and filming on on own.<br />
<br />
A word on the number of stitches to cast on - it doesn't matter and is totally your preference or at the discretion of your pattern. 10 is MY arbitrary number. The key is that you need to have the same number on both needles.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI6Z7fJ37oa6SJPkf0RNUK3WCNKnxNu7Enn1tkZIxc70Kjdz-yu_L8KdvNkFlG8v3jfw6l6_MzkivAFlHIxVbn9mcOXwzZMDPG1ZkbLNl-HnUOku5F8OvHgf0xfaj-Ren_CYHmEKvmgK8T/s1600/Socks-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="423" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI6Z7fJ37oa6SJPkf0RNUK3WCNKnxNu7Enn1tkZIxc70Kjdz-yu_L8KdvNkFlG8v3jfw6l6_MzkivAFlHIxVbn9mcOXwzZMDPG1ZkbLNl-HnUOku5F8OvHgf0xfaj-Ren_CYHmEKvmgK8T/s640/Socks-4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<b> Increasing for your Toes</b><br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/96wgi1jHX6Y" width="640"></iframe>
Go slow with this because it's easy to drop those knit into the front and backs at the beginning and end of each row and I think it's hard to fix it when I drop them so I usually just start over. Again, I use <a href="https://youtu.be/p1r67zvErPk?list=PLFnsgPrVQ7aHiLaenSUVJkLhuqz8fJWw6">this video</a> when I need help!<br />
<br />
Two (of many) toe shaping options:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEing6hgeIXTqtptM6FYhyn9KzW2mVPDJWN_xCimR8WLzEZwrxXjKkI6IjaMPkGyYVid4VtUw7TO52gTKAEHUPcfAk2SMPAD3-iZkJ_RdAhwUhPI1Xx2ck-I7Ed80L7O7S380EGoNeiejtr3/s1600/Socks-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEing6hgeIXTqtptM6FYhyn9KzW2mVPDJWN_xCimR8WLzEZwrxXjKkI6IjaMPkGyYVid4VtUw7TO52gTKAEHUPcfAk2SMPAD3-iZkJ_RdAhwUhPI1Xx2ck-I7Ed80L7O7S380EGoNeiejtr3/s640/Socks-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
#1 Increase every row<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi10xKoE7EHREuSq3Hvmtxn2cl8OEQqFIM5zKi3DYp4APxy3dPzjxBKNTvFIAskjl10giCJzmgDP7K15kjOrX1Mq8C38qj6wZIPA2elqonwX-c4cJZ3Kf4YRC3zyeMCmI6NL3dhuETzmFGe/s1600/Socks-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi10xKoE7EHREuSq3Hvmtxn2cl8OEQqFIM5zKi3DYp4APxy3dPzjxBKNTvFIAskjl10giCJzmgDP7K15kjOrX1Mq8C38qj6wZIPA2elqonwX-c4cJZ3Kf4YRC3zyeMCmI6NL3dhuETzmFGe/s640/Socks-3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
This gives you a very short toe section, so it's good if you have short toes and if they kinda look like this shape. That being said, I don't have short toes and I kinda like the way that it fits. I tend to play around with both of these and not really care which I end up doing. I know. Helpful.<br />
<br />
#2 Increase every other row<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgusLhn_gLhvJyq7ypUZgoj4My1NFXfY1OGAIqHdRA8EYUH52XoelsAK1GXoDXcEwMBlhmExfo0DxqiZjd4PhyphenhyphenDzJGOik_m1B3GonstwEqvx5X9q75rB0P4qnpuRy_D_QKKjG1he8-2pd0K/s1600/Socks-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="423" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgusLhn_gLhvJyq7ypUZgoj4My1NFXfY1OGAIqHdRA8EYUH52XoelsAK1GXoDXcEwMBlhmExfo0DxqiZjd4PhyphenhyphenDzJGOik_m1B3GonstwEqvx5X9q75rB0P4qnpuRy_D_QKKjG1he8-2pd0K/s640/Socks-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
This gives you a longer, more elegant toe shape. Again, kinda base it off of your foot. I've made about half of my socks this way and I like the way it looks.<br />
<br />
Another option is to kinda mix the two and do the first few rows every row and then switch to every other...the choice is yours!! It's your custom fit socks :)<br />
<br />
So you will work on the toe increases until you have as many stitches as you need for your foot. This number is also a little arbitrary, but you will get an idea if you knit a gauge swatch. I tend to get 8 st. per inch and knit either 56 or 64 (or anywhere in between) socks for myself. The only way to know is to experiment. At least you can try these on your foot as you go and make adjustments if needed!<br />
<br />
For my sock-along sock, I cast on 20 stitches (10 each needle as shown in the video). Then, I increased every round until I reached 64 stitches (32 on each needle) before starting my texture pattern for the sock body (more on that in the next post).<br />
<br />
I really hope you find this helpful and that you knit socks along with me! I'm always knitting socks, and would be happy to help and to see your choices...so tag me on Instagram @antiquariabailey and use #calligraknittersockkal ;)<br />

I have been a lover of Video Podcasts for a long time. Working at home can be a lonely place and having a friendly voice and face is infinitely helpful, I think!<br />
<br />
Anyway, yesterday on Instagram (I'm @antiquariabailey) I posted a video of me knitting. And realized just how many other calligraphers are knitters or making enthusiasts. I gave me the final nudge to film myself and see if I could possibly tie all of my scattered interests together. I'm not sure that I succeeded at all but hey, at least I tried ;)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
An overall shot! After 2 full days of work I finally have the "little garden" gopher-resitstant!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I added in another raised bed...this time with aviary wire underneath so that the gophers can't invade. There is a smattering of herbs, along with strawberries and cucumbers in the middle!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8K11g1fMa7C9dH02S80Z5bLOgN6pWROVl2D5m5KUSmBd8K2IT1xpXVavZKYaIuN_RQVrga9NNinMoBQzxf-fM0RKesBVUq1KRO4-LO3rjQvSMp1Z5HZrbnGs_lTnR4gCjs_jCdWg8NLt9/s1600/Garden5.19.13-6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8K11g1fMa7C9dH02S80Z5bLOgN6pWROVl2D5m5KUSmBd8K2IT1xpXVavZKYaIuN_RQVrga9NNinMoBQzxf-fM0RKesBVUq1KRO4-LO3rjQvSMp1Z5HZrbnGs_lTnR4gCjs_jCdWg8NLt9/s640/Garden5.19.13-6.jpg" width="456" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also added the same aviary wire on top of the entire middle section. In lieu of planting in the ground, I added these terra cotta planter and cocoa shell mulch over the wire.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I still haven't finished this back corner...so the gophers can still attack. Some have gotten in the back raised bed. Yikes! I decided to leave it for now and cross my finger that they don't get to my tomatoes and peas!!</div>

No...it is a geranium! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Alys sparked the fire but Pinterest has helped fill my imagination. In the past few months, I've trolled and trolled for lovely images of other folks gardens, courtyards and patios. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's funny, when you don't really have any gardening experience or any specific person to turn to...it's really hard to know where to start. For this, I turned to the awesome BBC series, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64HtM2jfjz8">"How to be a Gardener" </a>with Alan Titchmarsh.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now that I am having to re-invision my space (because of those pesky gophers), I'm leaning on Pinterest for ideas of how to create a beautiful space that will work for me, without being destined for ruin.</div>

First of all, instead of mainly dirt, I will need to switch to mainly gravel and/or a bark mulch. Before I was planning much more of an English Garden feel.</div>

These past few weeks have been trying. Very trying.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The gophers (it has been confirmed) are attacking with a vengeance. They've pulled down into their holes almost every single gorgeous, blooming nasturtium that I planted. My beloved nasturtiums.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6lm4oB-yNwmUkqRixZkthyphenhyphenOUTMoTZOtQjVSAtaLS_CGtzSdsJrCNcyPcHwuMVqGXe0TASKYgS5eZr3xw2yXWPZ2q7BaOQNdkoZYrwqGNjCVLmKnxeAiD3e1_HSvV8Bg-nv6LAkwXm1p3Q/s1600/Garden5.6.13-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6lm4oB-yNwmUkqRixZkthyphenhyphenOUTMoTZOtQjVSAtaLS_CGtzSdsJrCNcyPcHwuMVqGXe0TASKYgS5eZr3xw2yXWPZ2q7BaOQNdkoZYrwqGNjCVLmKnxeAiD3e1_HSvV8Bg-nv6LAkwXm1p3Q/s640/Garden5.6.13-1.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This area used to house my blooming nasturtiums. After taking these pictures...even more of the plants are gone.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZZsU28NheF8uaxePJBV4VgyuiDGgWbNgt168EpPgaVVJ9_i9Z4hz9Vg8DmsHPmZX16VCr-XS557cWvgDdJw6n4jRHraGOkvVmLVcYVz2idKxxz8xJrM2iZwzv9lFfIR39oqR7foq-xYTK/s1600/Garden3.6.13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZZsU28NheF8uaxePJBV4VgyuiDGgWbNgt168EpPgaVVJ9_i9Z4hz9Vg8DmsHPmZX16VCr-XS557cWvgDdJw6n4jRHraGOkvVmLVcYVz2idKxxz8xJrM2iZwzv9lFfIR39oqR7foq-xYTK/s640/Garden3.6.13.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In an effort to deter the gophers, I dug a trench and laid hardware cloth against the fence where they were entering. Did it work?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Nope.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am now re-drawing and re-planning the garden. I basically have to pull everything out...replant what isn't damaged in gopher baskets. I may add some additional raised beds as well, so long as they have hardware cloth underneath them. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpsTlmYdiBbrhu36uriOstiw0Lm5LLFMHXZcdTC99QXSirNOeRheW1CDRD2NzDDlkwOc44BD9mkcgPwXkOKw-F0ulCYOZ_g7E6P5b3fwLzqFOGjdb8PlfzssJ5Pq4QX6JbxH3VuLGgVVK9/s1600/Garden3.6.13-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpsTlmYdiBbrhu36uriOstiw0Lm5LLFMHXZcdTC99QXSirNOeRheW1CDRD2NzDDlkwOc44BD9mkcgPwXkOKw-F0ulCYOZ_g7E6P5b3fwLzqFOGjdb8PlfzssJ5Pq4QX6JbxH3VuLGgVVK9/s640/Garden3.6.13-2.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In better news, my near dying passionfruit vine has blooms! I've realized that the vine was probably munched by gophers. It's wasn't my fault!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I still will probably need to sacrifice her, but for now, I will enjoy the gorgeous blooms.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPeqLkT0GC-hQv-yI8YSxWTuvbpG2j2aMqnXtbOiigrRtVd6Qab3_owaV1NJ1zzET2ydbxo1V1emK7v881azyTH834AM91sppLuQj-e8w2jNIVNlbChDexgU6I7C2XEskhnghDD9pSveTm/s1600/Garden3.6.13-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPeqLkT0GC-hQv-yI8YSxWTuvbpG2j2aMqnXtbOiigrRtVd6Qab3_owaV1NJ1zzET2ydbxo1V1emK7v881azyTH834AM91sppLuQj-e8w2jNIVNlbChDexgU6I7C2XEskhnghDD9pSveTm/s640/Garden3.6.13-4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
My gardening ideas have drastically changed over the past few weeks as my dreams of my "little garden" have crashed. I have been knocked down but am getting up and learning from this experience. I am re-focusing my attention and re-invisioning my dreams of this space.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I will report back soon!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

I started gardening the first week of January. It's the first time that I've had my own garden and I've already learned a ton.<br />
<div>
<br />
<div>
I've been documenting my progress since February and it's is so fun to see the progression & changes in the garden over the past few months.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My <a href="http://amondesignstudio.blogspot.com/2013/02/garden-snapshot.html">first garden snapshot</a> was bleak compared to what the space looks like now but all I can see is the huge amount work still left to do.</div>
<div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Standing here, under one of the huge trees that shades the lawn, I can see my entire "little garden." It's in the space behind our garage and I've been cultivating it as a place to grow all of the flowers and vegetables that need lots of glorious sunshine (it's the sunniest spot on our property).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A lovely image...yes? But I see war. I'm currently battling gophers (or moles) that have been creating dirt mounds and holes. That have been eating and killing the vines along the fence that I've been trying to grow for privacy. I love critters...but geez guys, give me a break! Don't you know I'm new at this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I see lots of questions. Should I be trimming off all of the runners on my strawberry plants? or do I want to keep some so that I can have new baby plants? Will they ever flower or just keep shooting off new runners? Why did the snap peas not sprout? Where should I plant all of these tomatoes?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I see worry. Will the gophers ruin everything? Am I pruning these tomatoes correctly? Am I watering enough?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
The nasturtiums are still my beloved. They've started blooming and are getting big! I can't believe how easy they were to plant and how well they're growing despite my ignorance. And the colors. Gorgeous reds, corals, oranges and yellows. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My other claim to gardening success so far has been my cut & come again lettuce. It looks a bit shabby here...but it was just harvested last Friday (the second harvest). With any luck, we'll get another harvest very soon. </div>

Speaking of harvests...I look forward to harvesting these bad boys soon. I know that I should have pinched off the blooms to encourage growth but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Oh well. I plan on thoroughly enjoying my 5 homegrown blueberries.</div>

<div>
This past weekend, we made a trip to the local ikea, and to OSH to transform our patio into a lounge. Ever since moving our outdoor dining table to the garden, this space has been sad & bare. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
No more! We spent all weekend hanging out, reading, chatting & having <a href="http://ohsobeautifulpaper.com/2013/04/cocktail-fridays-the-dark-stormy/">these</a> cocktails around the fire pit. Pure weekend bliss.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Besides lacking time due to travel these past few weeks (sorry to be absent), the topic of fantasy gardening was something of a challenge just to think about much less write about. After careful reflection, it has actually helped to reveal certain characteristics about myself.<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I've always loved being in gardens. I've always loved flowers. I've always loved the idea and the romance of gardening. Of cultivating gorgeous flowers & delicious edibles. I've always loved seeds packets and nurseries.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
All of these things are the visual components of gardens & gardening. What each plants looks like, how the space looks and feels. How I will look tending the garden (in a gorgeous straw hat, wearing Birkenstocks and an apron made of vintage ticking).</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Of course, in reality, you need so much more than the desire for an end result. I've learned that it's a process. That it's trial and error. That things will die (they already have). The difference now is that I'm taking the time to garden, to learn from my mistakes and from what nature throws my way. To not give up.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The big realization that I had is that the garden in my dreams is actually my garden. The one that is in my back yard. I go to sleep thinking of what to add next or how to solve my gopher problem (which has just struck while I was away). What pots & furniture to add to make the patio look more livable and how to add come character to the front rose beds that we inherited with the house. I really don't dream much beyond the space that I have. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNHIXom-j4Si-fiiadwPm96ejfb_Dk1bXa8f1rlFSStkuOPACeddekO54wzlYvnfrkzk5gi88rA6U0eNU3dHypuQmjhS1CWq80Y_S8uDL2qqTb4ZdlVOPi2dskl_1KjeGn70Sqyo1FybqL/s1600/Throughmywindow2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNHIXom-j4Si-fiiadwPm96ejfb_Dk1bXa8f1rlFSStkuOPACeddekO54wzlYvnfrkzk5gi88rA6U0eNU3dHypuQmjhS1CWq80Y_S8uDL2qqTb4ZdlVOPi2dskl_1KjeGn70Sqyo1FybqL/s640/Throughmywindow2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Part of me wishes that the whole backyard wasn't in full shade due to 2 huge trees smack dab in the middle of the lawn. But those trees also provide a place to hang our hammock and a large refuge from the sun during even the hottest of summer days. I'd love more space for vegetables or flowers but I'm coping with what I have and am not dreaming beyond it. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
One day, I'd love to have more land, a glass house and a detached studio to work from. I'd love to create an outdoor paradise that is calming and beautiful. I love the way that vines look so I'm certain that they will cover everything that they can. They will be trellised on walls, wrapping up poles and covering arbors. There will be beds full of fragrant plants and edibles galore. I hope to have children and teach them about the earth so that they will always respect all that it gives us.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For now, that is the life and garden of my dreams...my hopes for the future, for myself and my family but without a physical space to associate it with I can only grasps to concepts. It's still very abstract.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The garden in my dreams...in my fantasies is what I've been given. It's the first place that I've lived in my adult life that has had any dirt. It's what I can visualize in my mind. It's concrete. I strive to make it as beautiful as possible and to learn from it so that I can grow as a gardener.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

I've been busy with work & meetings over the past week but I was glad to be able to spend a little time out in the garden today. I planted some more sedum ground cover...I just love the stuff! The <a href="http://amondesignstudio.blogspot.com/2013/02/spanish-blue-sedum.html">spanish blue sedum</a> that I planted in-between the stone path has almost filled together already.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's now officially spring! Oh happy day:)</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
It is quite a novel idea to get a kid a gift certificate to a heritage rose nursery. Most kids probably wouldn't be very enthused.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I was the opposite. I absolutely loved it.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
My Aunt Donna knew me well. Growing up, she was like a grandmother to me, since my actual grandmother (her and my dad's mom, Charlotte) had past away before I was born. Her and I shared many of the same passions and I was always fascinated by what she was up to.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm not exactly certain which birthday the rose-certificate was for but my guess would be that I was in the "tween" years of my life. I cherished the experience of going to <a href="https://www.antiqueroseemporium.com/">The Antique Rose Emporium</a> and picking out "the perfect bush". </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
To this day, I am giddy anywhere that there is an overwhelming amount of visual stimuli; I linger for hours in fabric stores, nurseries, yarn shops and the like. It was no different that day. I probably made my parents stroll around for ages before deciding.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Do I remember the name or variety of the rose that I ended up choosing? No.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
What I do remember are the medium ballet pink blossoms that smelled incredibly fragrant but not saccharine sweet. The standard terra cotta pot that it was planted in--the joy of seeing it's first bloom each spring.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I will not claim any more ownership of this plant as I will of the cats that we adopted around the same time in my life. They all belong to my mother, because it is from her care and nurture that they have lived such happy lives. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I don't have as good of a track record (for plants--my cat is a very spoiled and happy member of the family). I have an enormous interest and love for plants, but I lack the knowledge of how to properly care for them. And until recently, I haven't really cared to learn. Convinced that I had a "black thumb," I would actually just neglect the plants out of laziness and therefore they would die. **To my credit, the Texas heat did not help.**</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It seems that fate has made me come back full circle and I now have a dozen or so rose bushes at our Pasadena, CA home that I must care for. They were not a choice that I made but entrusted to me since they have been around the property for many years. My gentle pruning and care of these bushes is what first re-sparked my interest and boosted my confidence in my ability to garden. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
-----</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
How serendipitous then, that my last conversation with my Aunt Donna before her passing early this year was mostly spent chatting about all of my roses.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

I do...I blame them for making my tiny baby plants their breakfast, lunch and dinner.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Not only are my seedlings their meals...the seeds are as well. After watching <a href="http://antiquariavintage.blogspot.com/2013/03/so-inspired-alys-fowler.html">my new favorite show</a>, I was inspired to sow some cut and come again baby lettuce. What did I find the next morning? All of the soil that I carefully planted had been foraged through. Oh well...I'm definitely learning my lesson and taking each one in stride. The lettuce has been re-sewn and has been covered with berry baskets.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The only true success I've had so far has been with my nasturtiums. I think they might be my forever favorite since they're my first. Do you know what they are? I didn't.</div>

I've found out that the birds like them too. So as soon as a baby seedling pops out of the ground, I have to cover it with a cloche (which I use a water bottle cut in half) to keep them safe.</div>

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was a crazy weekend last weekend and so far a very hectic week. My parents are out in Pasadena to visit so there's been plenty to do.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've not really made much progress in my little garden beyond continually covering seedlings as they pop up but I did acquire some new plants from the Pasadena City College Flea Market last weekend that need to be planted. I also got some nifty new (old) pots there as well (among other things for <a href="http://www.shopantiquaria.com/">Antiquaria</a>).</div>

Have you ever heard of a Calamondin?? I definitely hadn't but was immediately smitten with the gorgeous foliage and striped fruit when I found it at the nursery this past weekend. It called out to me and I had to take it and give it a home.</div>

Fortunately, the fruit is still not ripe...so it gives me time to research recipes that use this tiny tart citrus.</div>

I love moss...but since succulents grow so darn well here in California, I decided to plant <i>"Spanish Blue Sedum" </i>in between the slate stone path that meanders through my garden.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I spent a lot of time in my little garden this past weekend. The weather was gorgeous (60-70 degrees and sunny) and perfect to spend outdoors.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I acquired some new plants (a couple of citrus trees, blueberry bushes, a quince tree and strawberries)! I was quite the busy bee. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can see that I've planted the little strawberry plants in the cinder block holes that surround what will be a raised bed--once I add dirt. You can also see my new dwarf Meyer Lemon tree on the left. It's in bloom and smells heavenly!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAa99tTBaPWVuPAI8jj7iA6Ky_84DpuQ9JJFd0CyKg4oijhdO6tuSCLB6jNkjnemFIj_S3CNdTpKm-uF_lxQCaPsRETpz10TyGONK6l0QZGL-IIe0YjeULitbR7Ona21CGVWCelJSlB2y9/s1600/Garden2.25.13-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAa99tTBaPWVuPAI8jj7iA6Ky_84DpuQ9JJFd0CyKg4oijhdO6tuSCLB6jNkjnemFIj_S3CNdTpKm-uF_lxQCaPsRETpz10TyGONK6l0QZGL-IIe0YjeULitbR7Ona21CGVWCelJSlB2y9/s640/Garden2.25.13-4.jpg" width="456" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is the "overall" shot of the garden as of February 23, 2013. I will be regularly updating with this vantage point in order to record the growth throughout the seasons. You can see what it looked like when I started <a href="http://amondesignstudio.blogspot.com/2013/02/garden-snapshot.html">here</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am very pleased to report that my passionfruit vine is looking better and better everyday. Thank God I didn't send it to an early grave with the under-watering in the beginning. I'm now very diligent with watering all of my little plants.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Also, I have more sprouts!! I can't tell you how thrilled I was to see the Nasturiums pop up yesterday when I was watering. I've noticed though that a few of the tender leaves have been snapped off! I blame the birds...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If it continues to be a problem I'm going to have to figure out a solution. Maybe adding little cloches until they're bigger would help.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
All of the other little seedlings (which I am now almost 100% certain are poppies), are doing well and going strong. They're still teensy tiny but growing in numbers daily--which is so cool.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A few weeks ago...these little grassy onion like things started popping up in the front rose bed. Thinking they were weeds, I pulled a bit on them...but the buggers were really tight in the ground.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I thought...maybe they're wild onions and tried digging a few up. While they certainly looked like onions, they sure didn't smell like them so I knew that I had something entirely different on my hands.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Once I saw this little wisp of yellow...I was so excited! Daffodils!!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love that these little gems required no effort and were such a lovely surprise. Now, I just need to figure out how to keep care of them!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Also...a few little seedings (or weeds with my luck) started peeking through the dirt in the first area that I scattered seeds (on 2/5/13). There are so many that look the same that I'm very hopeful that they are indeed my Shirley poppies!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The other day, our neighbor John recommended I lean over our fence and take some of the oranges from his tree (there are tons). I thanked him and told him I would take him up on the offer closer to the weekend, when I could actually do something with the bounty. Now come the question...what to do?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm thinking tea or possibly flavored salts.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's so fun to see that the tree is already coming back to bloom while the ripe fruit awaits picking!</div>

All winter long, this little stick of a tree at the end of our driveway has been leafless and bare. Of course, I figured that come spring, it would once again get leaves but imagine my surprise this weekend when I found these gorgeous buds flowering! I can't wait for it to be in full bloom.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've spent a good deal of time this week/weekend in the garden. While there isn't much growing (yet) it's still quite a lovely place to be.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As I've spent more time sitting outside, I've noticed just how many different birds there are singing & dawdling around the garden. The one that's really caught by heart though is the hummingbird. There are at least two (I've seen them together) and they are colored differently. Perhaps they are friends...or mates?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This little guy was enjoying my lavender topiary this morning. He only stayed around long enough for one quick shot.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white;">My garden all started in early January with a Passion fruit vine <span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">(<span style="color: #222222; font-style: italic; line-height: 16px;">Passiflora edulis "</span><span style="font-style: italic; line-height: 16px;">Nancy</span><span style="color: #222222; line-height: 16px;"><i> Garrison"). </i>I do not have much of a green thumb (although I am working hard to train it in that direction), so after being in the ground for a week or two it was starting to look kind of rough. </span></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRdB2CjYJuANy6WZnwcvcdujP1iTi2mT_ova7isQg0mKCACQCIHp6uo9npL9uhOxzBxVJoOGS2KOsJAxnkd5BJr7bC8FdgNznNf1f1Inc4CskqeFEWR8CZgrdlMkqoEnI-1Z6uhv_9aRIQ/s1600/Garden2.10.13-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRdB2CjYJuANy6WZnwcvcdujP1iTi2mT_ova7isQg0mKCACQCIHp6uo9npL9uhOxzBxVJoOGS2KOsJAxnkd5BJr7bC8FdgNznNf1f1Inc4CskqeFEWR8CZgrdlMkqoEnI-1Z6uhv_9aRIQ/s640/Garden2.10.13-2.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I thought it was maybe the cold snap we had...or that something was attacking its roots. I was a worried plant mama.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
One day, Emma (my business partner), came by the house and took a look at the vine. She said that all she thought that it needed was a long soak with the hose. We immediately turned on the faucet and let it get a nice long drink.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ever since, I've been giving my vine lots of water. I also added a bit of fertilizer and organic mulch so that it would stay moist longer.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Overall, it still looks a bit scraggly but there are signs of new life on the vine. Little leaves are sprouting out in many places...promises of future growth!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I look forward to the day that this vine has so much growth that it covers our ugly fence. Until then, I will take the small victories and try to keep it alive.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The seeds that I ordered online (all but one) came this week in the mail!! I'm trying my hand at lots of varieties of poppies, as well as some other beautiful varieties. From my research, I learned that you want to scatter poppy seeds early in the season (or even the previous fall) in order for them to germinate. They don't like to be transplanted or grown in pots...so this seemed like the only option.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I prioritized my poppy plantings first so that I could get them off and running. My first batch was planted on 2/5/13, so 5 days ago. It will be interesting to see when & if they sprout. My worst fear is that nothing happens or that birds have eaten all of my seeds (since you don't sow them but on the surface, they are susceptible to that). Only time will tell.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-5ghZGeSrNyK5lzRNAxGxZDxzyw5IIxA6uqknzogaswg4J9st1jDFtrtHJuRPdJeGAibGYBghGQEvImLYtEYOgmMjzVnnLCLGZAjkNK1xuAavvBAblJYoG2GTJuLv5D618ScRB3ujx7Mp/s1600/Garden2.10.13-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-5ghZGeSrNyK5lzRNAxGxZDxzyw5IIxA6uqknzogaswg4J9st1jDFtrtHJuRPdJeGAibGYBghGQEvImLYtEYOgmMjzVnnLCLGZAjkNK1xuAavvBAblJYoG2GTJuLv5D618ScRB3ujx7Mp/s640/Garden2.10.13-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So far, I've managed to plant up about 1/3 of my "little garden" (the one behind the garage). You can see above that I've staked off where I've sprinkled seeds so that I can keep track and not over plant (haha...as if--with my luck, nothing will grow). I like that there are a few plants anchoring the bed (so far 2 scented geranium and 1 current bush). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The other project I took on this weekend was setting up a raised bed. I will be sure to share images as I have them. I really think that it helps define the space & will be good since there is a weird, huge root running through that side of the bed.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am excited to also try experimenting with propagating in the future (geraniums, lavender, succulents, my current bush)! Who doesn't like free plants?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbAP_ALlYKD4sJklPJyrUznZ48aerQuxDW-DHLokWyfCjdRU0-pDlF4Ezv5N8yZfGz0qeYUnzgwMg3_YH1cE-cZ1rWfVsG61K_-ezr3ZgCurSM4q6gA_lXCCzhmuImSCT5j9in4qW87H9T/s1600/YellowJess-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbAP_ALlYKD4sJklPJyrUznZ48aerQuxDW-DHLokWyfCjdRU0-pDlF4Ezv5N8yZfGz0qeYUnzgwMg3_YH1cE-cZ1rWfVsG61K_-ezr3ZgCurSM4q6gA_lXCCzhmuImSCT5j9in4qW87H9T/s640/YellowJess-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Speaking of free plants, I am very lucky to have inherited this Yellow Jessamine vine with the house. It really wasn't anything at all to look at a month or so ago but has recently bursted into color. It also smells divine, sort of like jasmine but different.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The hummingbirds love this bad boy too! The blooms are fairly small but there are so many on each branch, the whole thing looks canary yellow from a distance.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
That's my snapshot of the progress so far here. I welcome any suggestions or tips that you may have for my little outdoor space.</div>

Wishing you a wonderful week!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I figure that since I've currently been placed in beautiful Pasadena, I should embrace it and build a garden. I'll admit to not having a great track record with plants...but I blame it on the Texas heat (but it was mostly laziness on my part). </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The photos above show my progress from before we moved in (Sept. 2012) and when I first cleaned up the space a little (Jan. 4, 2013). I was honestly shocked to see the state of the space when we first arrived. I almost forgot how barren it was.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This past weekend, I decided to put in a stone path so that I could make a good outline & plan for how to plant the space. I also added in 2 scented geranium plants...how have I never recognized the awesomeness of these before?? They smell amazing. One is lemon & one apple. I can't wait to see what other varieties the nursery receives in the coming months.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also moved all of our outdoor furniture into our "little private garden" (the space behind our garage).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also groomed this little lavender plant (Lavandula Spanish Pink) into a tabletop topiary. I love it...and I love the little green patterned pot.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
While I was shoveling dirt, I came across some really interesting iron brackets, stakes & other pieces. It makes me wonder what was here before the house...</div>

All sorts of critters enjoy the outside space as much as we do! I couldn't resist sharing a snapshot of this little guy who posed while I was pruning the rose bushes.</div>

Every Christmas, my family (mom, dad & me) head to San Antonio to celebrate with everyone on my dad's side. This year, we went further south, to Devine, TX to visit with my aunt & uncle for the afternoon. It's truly the country, they have land & plenty of animals to keep them company. How cute are these baby longhorns?</div>

I was very thankful to be able to travel back to TX for the holidays and relished my time there with family & friends. </div>

This has been a very long time coming, however, it still pulls a bit at my heartstrings. My first business, Amon Design Studio...is no longer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One year ago, I moved across the country to get married & help Antiquaria (my other business) flourish. It has been quite the adventure in 2012 but has been 100% worth it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Not being a terribly tech savvy person, I've hem & hawed over what to do with amondesignstudio.com for the past year. Ultimately, I decided to keep it as this blog, a place where I can share both personal and professional accomplishments and musings.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Before shutting down the site for good...I took some screen shots of the old site for memories sake. </div>

Typically, we try to take a walk either on Sat. or Sun. The past three weeks have brought us house guests, so our walk today felt extra refreshing. We walked in a new direction for us and discovered that some stunning vantage points were very near by.</div>

In the distance, you can see the Griffith Park observatory and next to it the "Hollywood" sign. The camera didn't quite capture it as vividly visible as it was in person.</div>

One of the other benefits to living in CA is that there is a ton of plant life, growing all year round. I look forward to the day we live in a place with a bit of earth in which I will plant flowers and edibles.</div>

I love journals but am terrible at writing in them on a regular basis...much like this blog.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It is always nice though, to go back and read through what has happened and what I've had to say about it at the time.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This past year has turned my life upside down in many ways, all of them a bit unexpected.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">First of all, my business <a href="http://www.shopantiquaria.com/">Antiquaria</a> has flourished beyond both mine and my business partners imagination within the first year. At this time last year, we were gearing up for our website launch, which occurred on December 10, 2010.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Since then, it has been a whirlwind keeping up with calligraphy and shipping, invitation design and PR. Overnight, it seems like our plates were over-filled and although we we're hungry, we were just trying to keep up!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In May, D & I were finally able to get away and went to New Mexico to visit my Best friend, Lauren.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG0-m7gldijhWeffuNbn3ZqXeAcEjMN3on2x66AIFjQe-mSAtCSIdLC-kFXzDB5fr37IoHTa5vhyzmPnOSLGt6jGhzLg9gwoGFl4C6rbVzex82L1q_MjUYHhgeHm5Hdv9st_hayIuf7QmQ/s1600/IMG_4487.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG0-m7gldijhWeffuNbn3ZqXeAcEjMN3on2x66AIFjQe-mSAtCSIdLC-kFXzDB5fr37IoHTa5vhyzmPnOSLGt6jGhzLg9gwoGFl4C6rbVzex82L1q_MjUYHhgeHm5Hdv9st_hayIuf7QmQ/s400/IMG_4487.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">When we were visiting Taos (one of my fav. places) we stayed at the most fabulous B&B. How cute are these bird houses!!! Straight out of Antropologie!!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Dined on some Bison pot roast. (Lauren and I went out to the local farmers market and got one of the most delicious pot roasts I've ever made.)</div><div style="text-align: center;">We played Taboo and hot tubbed. Over all it's just the kind of break that the doctor called for.</div><div style="text-align: center;">When I went to work for myself (now 2 &1/2 years ago) I never would have imagined how difficult it is to schedule time off over asking for it. One of the hardest things to cope with is the feeling of never truly being "off".</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Right after the vacation, D moved:(</div><div style="text-align: center;">He went to Cali to pursue a graduate degree and left me here to miss him. J/K</div><div style="text-align: center;">I<i> have </i>missed him terribly but I am also moving!</div><div style="text-align: center;">I'll be moving to sunny CA, more specifically Los Angeles and I'm both excited and really sad. Austin is my home and contains everything that I love (except D). I think I've known for so long...that it will be refreshing when the day is finally here. Which is <b>this month</b>! Yikes!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This falls been crazy, I've been back and forth to LA 3 times, the last being last week for Thanksgiving. You can see how I spent it <a href="http://antiquariavintage.blogspot.com/2011/11/antiquaria-thanksgiving.html">here</a>. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">This photo (above) was taken in Santa Barbara at dinner the night we drove into town for Thanksgiving. The sun was setting and it was so beautiful. The perfect way to relax after a few hours in traffic.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">There is one last biggie that happened this year...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><i>I'm engaged!</i></b></div><div style="text-align: center;">After an eight year relationship and a 13 year friendship, D & I are finally settling in together. So many changes...but I couldn't be more excited.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Obviously, things will be hectic until the dust settles after the move. I plan on being more present here and sharing more (in a timely manner) since now, so many dear friends will be so far away.</div><div style="text-align: center;">Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and I'll see you in the New Year 2012!!</div><div style="text-align: center;">xoxo</div><div style="text-align: center;">Bailey</div>Amon Design Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17302961381737678216noreply@blogger.com0
